Emma Thompson and Dakota Fanning in Effie
Based on a real-life Victorian-era scandal, this period drama (now shooting in Venice and set for a June 2012 release) stars Dakota Fanning (right) as Euphemia ”Effie” Gray, a teen who fights to escape a loveless marriage to celebrated art critic John Ruskin (Greg Wise). Emma Thompson (left) — who plays Effie’s confidante, Lady Eastlake, and wrote the script — says the story highlights ”part of the submerged history of women: very, very famous men who are absolutely vile to their wives.” —Josh Rottenberg
I’m not so much excited about Dakota Fanning or ANY Fanning, really. I’m excited that Emma Thompson is writing a non-Nanny McPhee screenplay again. ALSO, she is starring in a film with her husband, Greg Wise, who she married after writing for and starring with in Sense & Sensibility (for those of you who don’t know, he played the wicked Willoughby).
Sigh. I love Emma Thompson so much.
